DCL Editor for OpenVMS Available as a Free Download
Editor for popular OpenVMS scripting language from eCube Systems brings Eclipse-based editing to OpenVMS users working on Windows, Mac, Linux.
Houston, Texas. March 6, 2015
eCube Systems, the leading provider of modern development tools and best practices for OpenVMS, announced the release of a free Eclipse DCL editor.
Currently, developers use a variety of non-graphical editors that are not integrated into their development process to compose and edit DCL scripts. With eCube’s Eclipse DCL editor, developers will now be able to use a modern integrated development (IDE) tool to compose and edit DCL scripts. Additionally, the editor provides syntax highlighting (so errors can be detected early) support for Lexical Assist (a powerful tool for those that don’t write DCL everyday) and all of the powerful editor features available to Eclipse editors (split editors, drag and drop, etc).
The DCL editor can also be used with the NXTware Remote Server (not included with the free DCL editor), to provide automatic transfer to OpenVMS and code assist for correct DCL syntax. NXTware Remote is a modern Eclipse-based IDE that gives organizations the ability to improve the quality, productivity and agility of their development processes. It leverages and extends the Eclipse platform to support a wide variety of languages, scripts and middleware platforms. The DCL editor, which is now a standard NXTware Remote feature, is already available to current NXTware remote users.
Ultimately, the DCL editor features will increase developer productivity. Developers who do not do DCL development full time will have more time to spend on other tasks. The time savings will be especially valuable to organizations that use Eclipse as a corporate standard and to those that are committed to modern development best practices.
In order to use the editor, you need to have Eclipse installed. To download the DCL editor, please click here.
