eCube Delivers .NET to FORTRAN Interoperability with NXTware Remote

NXTware Remote Update Includes Automated FORTRAN Interoperability with .NET and Windows Communication Foundation.

Houston, Texas. May 31, 2012

eCube Systems, LLC, a provider of middleware and interoperability tools, has recently released and update to its popular remote development tool, NXTware Remote, with new capabilities for FORTRAN business logic.

Now .NET SOA interfaces can be generated from FORTRAN programs and procedures. The enhancement, based on the NXTera middleware technology, enables.NET applications and clients to seamlessly interoperate with legacy applications built in FORTRAN running on any middle-tier platform, including Windows, Linux, Unix and OpenVMS.

Using NXTware Remote, existing FORTRAN code may fully participate in the Microsoft .NET cross-language development framework -- without forcing expensive rewrites or complex transformations.

"With NXTware Remote software developers can dynamically access FORTRAN programs and logic from .NET," said Kevin Barnes, eCube Systems CEO. "NXTware Remote makes FORTRAN look like another .NET service. At the same time, FORTRAN applications can access .NET resources in any .NET language as if it were a remote FORTRAN program."

Benefits

These new capabilities deliver solid benefits to software developers and enterprise managers tasked with getting more out of existing resources. These include:

  • Eliminating the need to replace FORTRAN language business logic with C#
  • Speeds time-to-market by allowing legacy business logic to leverage .Net services quickly
  • Rejects the use of clumsy wrappering functions that increase maintenance costs
  • Extends the value of strategic assets while lowering maintenance and development costs
  • Aids in the movement of legacy FORTRAN logic to Linux and integration with contemporary .NET applications

Features

NXTware Remote generates, manages and integrates service interfaces for legacy COBOL, C and FORTRAN business logic that can be easily extended to .NET and Java. NXTware Remote tools and procedures make the process quick and flexible.

  • The underlying NXTera/.NET client runtime is 100% implemented in .NET
  • NXTware Remote generates client connectors in C# and VB.NET
  • Supports the creation of clients and servers in any .NET language
  • Easily add .NET SOA service virtualization with Nevatech Sentinet virtualization platform
  • Compatible with the Mono Project

Availability

Now software development teams have the ability to develop new initiatives based on .NET while preserving and reusing existing COBOL investments with NXTware Remote. NXTware Remote for .Net will be generally available June 15, 2012.

About NXTware Remote

NXTware Remote is an Eclipse-based integrated remote development environment (RDE) that makes it simple for developers to write code and then compile and debug it remotely. Enterprise IT organizations doing strategic development in COBOL, FORTRAN, C, BASIC, PASCAL and Java on a variety of platforms can develop on a OpenVMS, Linux and UNIX servers from Windows, Mac or Linux workstation with NXTware Remote.
