eCube Systems Announces New Scripting Editors and RMS Support for NXTware Remote for OpenVMS

NXTware Remote 4.2 gains new IFDL, TDF, GSF, C-DO editors and more flexible data access with support for OpenVMS Record Management Service (RMS)

Houston, Texas. April 22, 2013

eCube Systems, a leading provider of middleware modernization, has announced general availability of new OpenVMS scripting editors and RMS support for NXTware Remote 4.2. The NXTware Remote Integrated Development Environment (IDE) automates time-consuming tasks and allows developers, even those with little-to-no OpenVMS experience, to be comfortable and productive without extensive training.

eCube is constantly working to improve the user experience. The new scripting editors provide developers with syntax highlighting, error detection, code completion, language templates, and an outline view. Developers also have the ability to mirror/synchronize files and comment, uncomment, and block. Lastly, there is multi-language (COB, C++/C, PAS, BAS, JAVA), and multi-scripting language (DCL, INC, COM, IFDL, TDF, GSF, C-DO) support.

With the addition of the OpenVMS RMS support, RMS users can now use SQL directly in the NXTware Remote IDE to access existing RMS databases. Developers and database administrators can now use NXTware Remote to access and query RMS data in an Integrated Development Environment.

Although it is seen as proprietary, RMS's ease of use and wide distribution has led to its routine use in enterprise solutions. Now, instead of feeling isolated, RMS users can easily develop agile solutions in NXTware Remote and provide access to RMS data via Web Services.

“RMS is a key component in our commitment to full support of the OpenVMS platform," says Kevin Barnes, CEO of eCube Systems. “Second in popularity only to Oracle rbd, RMS is the native data management system at the heart of OpenVMS. The ability to treat RMS like a relational database in NXTware Remote—with an explorer style interface and standard SQL commands—makes it a tool anyone can use productively."

About NXTware Remote

NXTware Remote is an Eclipse-based integrated development environment (IDE) that makes it simple for developers to write code and then compile and debug it remotely. Enterprise IT organizations doing strategic development in COBOL, FORTRAN, C, BASIC, PASCAL, and JAVA on a variety of platforms use NXTware Remote to develop on OpenVMS, Linux, and UNIX servers from Windows, MAC, or Linux workstations.

About OpenVMS RMS

OpenVMS Record Management Service (RMS) is a set of generalized services that assist application programs in processing and managing files and their contents. RMS ensures safe and efficient file sharing by providing multiple files access models to match file sharing with file operations; automatic record locking in applicable file access models that ensures data integrity during record updates; and optional buffer sharing to minimize I/O operations when multiple processes access the same file.

RMS also enforces the security requirements of a multiuser system with potential multimode access by restricting file access to one or more user types and a list of user names.
